Chinese TANG Dynasty Amber-Glazed Jar Pot Storage Vessel. This medium-to-large storage vessel has a fine amber glaze (Hong tao, red pottery) on the upper body. It was made during the Tang dynasty (618 AD - 906 AD), when ceramic firing technology (both low-fired and high-) was developing rapidly.

It was likely made in a northern kiln for daily use, but even an utilitarian everyday functional object such as this have strong aesthetic identities that is typical of Tang culture. Approximate size: Height - 10-1/2" x Diameter - 7-5/8". Condition: Overall in original undamaged condition - very nice for an artifact of antiquity.

Original kiln marks to the glaze at the top rim; otherwise some color variations in the body from the firing process typical of most of these vessels.
