Antique Meerschaum 11 Smoking Pipe Carved Horse & Wolf Dog & Cherry Amber Stem

Offering a stunning, antique, 19th century carved Meerschaum tobacco pipe. This sculpture pipe measures 11" long in it's entirety with the carved Meerschaum part being 4 1/2" long, and the cherry amber stem being 7 long including the hidden tenon.

The deep carving features a horse being harassed by either a wolf or a dog. The Meerschaum is toned with age and there are variations in the coloring and some loss of beeswax finish. The bowl is dark inside and has obviously been used. A few scattered nicks including a tiny bit off of one ear point on the dog. I think the Meerschaum carving is built on a shank of golden amber.

The material here is different, glossier, smoother and with peculiarly spotted marking. The tenon is carved with threads cut like a screw. No damage or chew marks on the cherry amber bit. This is a beautiful piece of sculpture, interesting to look at and hold.
