This is a very fine Bakelite necklace of beautiful, shiny, large, round honey amber marbled beads. This gorgeous necklace dates to the Art Deco era c1920/30`s and is a beautiful example of this massive bead style.
The beads are very large in front and graduate to smaller towards the back. The center bead measures 24.6mm(nearly an inch wide) and the smallest beads measure just over 9mm. The necklace is a beautiful wearable length of 21 1/2 inches. It has just been professionally restrung with Griffin cord and knotted between each bead.It is accented by a stunning sterling clasp set with an amber cabochon. The clasp is new, beautiful, works perfectly and measures 20mm by 17mm. After returning from a trip to the Baltic region and purchasing genuine amber, I thought I had found an old amber necklace at an estate sale.
When I removed the beads from the old string, sadly, they would not float in salt water like my other amber. I tried the acetone test, and they were not affected in any way. Amber and Bakelite are not damaged by acetone. These beads acted just like amber and attracted the lint and small paper. Eventually the pink polish on the q-tip turned a pale yellow which identified these beads as Bakelite rather than Amber. This stunning necklace is in perfect condition with perfectly polished beads. It is sure to be noticed.
I also have a matching bracelet for sale in my shop. All of the jewelry in my shop is in excellent condition and ready to wear. This beautiful necklace will arrive in a velvet presentation box.
